Anticipation and Dread
28-Aug-2007
This is the day I have been waiting for. And dreading just a little. The tomatoes have made the turn and will be getting ripe on a regular and on-going basis. Sounds like a gardener’s dream, right? Well, it mostly is. But see the Sweet 100s in the photo above? That’s what I picked today. There will be another batch with just as many ready to go tomorrow or the next day. They don’t call them Sweet 100s for no reason!
I love these little sugary bite-size tomatoes – and can eat a ton of them – but they are just about to out pace me….

Beautiful tomatos! If they are outpacing you, I guess some sweet marinara sause is in order. My wife (she\’s from China) often eat stirfried eggs and tomatos with chopped green onions over rice. Just a few ideas so that those delictible little guys don\’t go to waste.
Hi Jamie! So the thing I didn\’t mention in this post are the San Marzanos, Golden Romas, Caspian Pinks and Green Zebras. :-) Believe me I know a 1000 things to do with tomatoes and even often can several jars for use in the winter! But I love just popping these guys in my mouth – it\’s like eating candy! And the way I use the surplus most often is to just give them to appreciative friends – that\’s really the very best!

We just returned from Oregon and found our tomato yield is far and above anything we can handle right now. I\’m trying to geared for some canning but it just doesn\’t feel right for that now. Tons of capressa salad on the way until then. And maybe a few roasted tomatos stuffed with some fresh garden basil and oregano and topped with mozarella.
Hey BH!
Apparently you are still too much in summer mode! It\’s fall (at least according to the schools…. )! Time to can those tomatoes so you have a little summer stored in the pantry!
