Welcome to the Culinary Fool blog!

My name is Brenda but I’m more often known as Culinary Fool in most places online.  I live in Seattle and love it here.  The proximity to both mountains and ocean, as well as the beautiful forests, temperate climate and great city with an amazing food culture make me thrilled to call this place home.

I started this blog in late 2004 as a way to share the adventures of a cooking club I belonged to.  The cooking club ended it’s run in 2011 after nine great years, I’m sad to say, but over the years the blog has evolved to embrace many culinary topics.  So I blog about all kinds of adventures in my home, in restaurants and bars around Seattle, and often about my food-related travel experiences.  From time to time there will be information about food events – especially those that support a cause I’m interested in.

Although I love cooking, creating and enjoying great food, over the years I’ve come to realize that the reasons I love them are really about the social aspects of food.  Creating an experience in my home where friends come together around the table – whether it’s a small, intimate group or a large party crowd – to enjoy conversation and laughter is what drives my desire to prepare great food.  Finding restaurants or bars with the ambience that allows comfortable, cozy conversation with both friends and strangers drives my quest to check out new places.  When traveling I often find that my best experiences and the way I learn the most about a new place is by spending time interacting, observing and contemplating while sitting in cafés or attempting to converse with locals while at a bar.  You can learn a lot about a place, its history and culture through food.

I’m happy that you have found me here and hope you’ll come back often and perhaps share your experiences, too!

    Hi Brenda,
I love reading your blog and remembering when I was one of your culinary cohorts. I was hoping to find your seafood quiche recipe somewhere in here…any chance you would send it to me?
Keep dining, keep blogging. It makes me so happy.
    Lots of love, Vicki
