“Sport”
It looks like John Howie’s new restaurant, Sport, is really going to open soon! The new location was originally scheduled to open in late summer/early fall 2004, but was delayed. I spoke with John Howie in late September at "Cooking with Class" and he told me it WOULD open in January and it looks like he made it. There’s a fundraiser scheduled for January 17th with proceeds targeted to benefit the Moyer Foundation, which donates money to charities that help critically ill children; Shaun Alexander Foundation, which mentors young men; and the Jamal Crawford Foundation, which gives money to children’s charities.
If you are not familiar with John he was the executive chef at Palisade for 10 years and then left to open Seastar, located in Bellevue, in 2002. When I worked on the east side, Seastar was one of my favorite places to drop into after a long day at work. The focus is on seafood and their amazing raw bar, featuring wonderful sushi and sashimi.
Sport will be more of a sports bar (surprise!) but will have the John Howie touch of excellence – for instance, burgers will be Kobe beef.
The fundraising dinner will be from 8 to 11:30 p.m. on January 17th and will include auctions of sports memorabilia and events with athletic stars. Tickets cost $200 and can be ordered by calling the Moyer Foundation at 206-298-1217. The Seattle Times reports that Sport will open to the public the following day. It is located in the Fisher Plaza building at 140 Fourth Ave. N. in Seattle.
